Where do I begin?

The first step in our collaboration is an individual family meeting, which provides an opportunity for us to talk about the journey ahead and begin to think about what it means to find your best-fit schools. Discussing what you enjoy about Millennium and what you are curious to try in high school is a great starting point!

Consider these questions

What do I value and what is important about school?

Consider which characteristics of your learning community you appreciate and care most about. Take time to reflect on student and parent/guardian perspectives.

Academics

  • How do I learn best?

  • What kind of a learner am I?

  • What do I need to be a successful learner?

  • What kind of instruction works best for me?

  • What kind of classroom environment & structure works best for me?

Community

  • What kinds of people do I want to be around - students, teachers?

  • What kinds of values are important in my school community?

  • What kinds of non-academic experiences do I want available to me?

Taking notes

Creating a list of Pros, Cons, and Wonders for each school will help you track how the schools are similar, what differentiates them, and what unanswered questions remain after your research. Remember to come back to these lists throughout the journey as you add data points and notes about your experiences. Consider the different elements of this Points to Ponder Document in your research.

Researching Schools

Click here for a list of day and boarding schools.

Spend some time on each website to see how high schools describe their missions, values, community, academic philosophy, student life, arts, athletics, etc.

Here is an example template for you to begin your research.
