Millennium School believes that active reading helps students to explore multiple perspectives of the world while developing a foundation for strong academic performance. Students will read literature aligned with different subjects each term, and then discuss the reading through facilitated Harkness seminars each week.

In addition to in-class assignments, we encourage students to read as much as they can outside of school and over the summer. Ideally, Millennium parents, students, and Guides work together to identify books that are authentically interesting to our students, helping to inspire in them a lifelong love for reading.

Below is a list of recommended books for supplemental reading to explore with your student outside of class:

The Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen, Lloyd Alexander

Counting by 7s, Holly Goldberg Sloan

Ghost, Jason Reynolds

Okay for Now, Gary D. Schmidt
