We're thrilled to announce the next event in the Millennium School speaker series, featuring Denise Pope of the Stanford School of Education. Denise's popular 2001 book, "Doing School": How We Are Creating a Generation of Stressed Out, Materialistic, and Miseducated Students" spurred a national conversation about unhealthy levels of stress and performance pressure in many top schools. Denise has researched the phenomena many of us have noticed, of students with too much homework to get a full night's sleep, and activity schedules that would exhaust a busy executive. Based on this work, she co-founded Challenge Success, a nonprofit at Stanford which helps schools support healthy student cultures, where kids have time to be curious and creative, to tinker and invent, to build close friendships, and to remain physically and mentally healthy.
Denise's talk will focus on strategies for parents, answering these key questions:
How do I raise a healthy adolescent amidst all the pressure to perform?
How do I choose a middle or high school where my child will be healthy and successful?
What's MY role as a parent to support them through these critical years?
We hope to see you there!
